Key Highlights since March 2023

Summer Program – The Only Summer Learning Initiative in Anyama

Launched as the only summer learning initiative in Anyama, this program provides free access to literacy and technology education for youth aged 11-19. Over the past two years, the program has engaged more than 80 students, ensuring access to learning during the summer months. In summer 2024, we worked with 50 students on English, French, and technology activities. The program also provided daily meals, field trips to historical and cultural sites, and interactions with local youth leaders and authors to make the program immersive and hands-on, incorporating learning elements absent from the traditional school curriculum.

UNESCO Digital Learning Week – Participation in Paris

Participated in UNESCO’s Digital Learning Week in Paris, connecting with global leaders in education and technology to explore innovative strategies for enhancing digital learning and programming, especially for youth in underserved communities. This engagement has allowed us to bring back valuable insights and best practices that inform our approach to integrating technology programs that align with global and national priorities.

Library Classes – The First Library Classes in Lycee Moderne d’Anyama

Introduced the first structured library classes in our partner school, where students alternate each week between French, English, and technology, ensuring balanced literacy and digital education. With a student-to-teacher ratio of 25 to 1, compared to the traditional 70 to 1 classroom ratio, students benefit from personalized and group learning, weekly library documentation and research hours, and independent learning opportunities.

Closing the Gaps Program – Providing Additional Support Beyond Library Classes

Launched during the 2024-2025 academic year, this program offers additional support beyond library classes and is the first free extracurricular opportunity of its kind. Through its technology, newsletter, and literacy clubs, with 513 students participating monthly, the program ensures that youth in Anyama receive additional academic and personal development tailored to bridging the gap in foundational literacy, digital skills, and creative expression.

Code Club Anyama – The First Organization to Bring Code Club to Ivory Coast

Impactful Education became the first organization to introduce Code Club to Ivory Coast, providing foundational programming and computational thinking skills. Every week, more than 70 students create coding projects that reflect their experiences and address real-world issues in their communities. Our students are also preparing to participate in the Coolest Projects competition to showcase their coding and digital projects.

Cissé Ahmed

My name is Cissé Ahmed, and being part of the library’s Technology Club has been an incredible learning experience. The most valuable thing I have learned through the club is how to use technology to create and build. Before joining, I had no idea how to work with different platforms. But thanks to the resources and programs available, I am learning so much about tools like Scratch and HTML. With the skills I have acquired, I am now starting to create my own web page using HTML, something I never imagined doing before.I am truly grateful to Impactful Education for providing me with this opportunity to learn and grow. This knowledge is shaping my understanding and what I want to do in the future.

Traoré Affousiata

My name is Traoré Affousiata, and the resources and experiences from the library have played a key role in my personal and academic development. One of the most impactful experiences for me was the Newsletter Club. Through this club, I had the chance to do things I never thought I could, like conducting an interview without being nervous.

In addition, being part of this club allowed me to tap into my creativity and collaborate with different students from the school. Together, we created a school journal, led entirely by us. For me, this was the first time I had the freedom to apply my creativity and knowledge to something meaningful, and it was an incredibly rewarding experience.

Boffouo Marie Oriane

During the summer program, I improved my vocabulary in both French and English. I also learned a lot about technology and how to use a computer, which was actually my first time using one. When it comes to school, I learned new things in English. Before, I wasn’t really interested in it, but now I’m doing better. I can understand my teacher’s instructions more easily, and my grades have improved. One of the best moments for me during the summer program was meeting an author and talking to her about one of her books, which is my favorite. The author’s name is Mahoua S. Bakayoko, and the book is La Rébellion de Zantigui. It was really exciting to talk to her and learn more about her story.

Kone Makaya Bilal

The library helps us explore our creativity through coding. Personally, it has allowed me to imagine becoming a comic book creator because the possibilities are endless. Every day, I see my classmates bring stories about their journey to life through Scratch, which inspires me more and more, pushing me to explore telling my own story as well.
It is an honor and a privilege for me to participate in the Coolest Project competition. I am really excited to work with my friends to bring our creativity to life and show what we are capable of achieving, especially as a young girl. I also want to thank Impactful Education for giving us this incredible opportunity.

Dago Rami

The library has helped me improve my vocabulary and grammar in French by introducing me to reading and writing through the library classes and the Literacy Club. Before, I wasn’t really interested in reading, but I enjoy the library activities that make it fun, like the reading circle where we read together and then share our thoughts on the books. I have also discovered new books and learned how to write an argumentative essay. These activities have not only improved my writing skills and ability to express my thoughts more clearly, but they have also helped me get better grades in French class.

Combo Grâce

The library has helped me discover new books, and thanks to my many readings, I have become familiar with various novels and their authors. This has given me a much smoother understanding when it comes to my French essays, which I used to find difficult because my literary knowledge and resources were limited. Also, thanks to the computers available at the library, everything is provided for us to learn and do our research. For example, I had math homework, and with the resources available, I was able to get an average score. The library is really beneficial to us, and I feel lucky and privileged to have access to it, especially for free
