After eight transformative weeks, Impactful Education's summer program concluded with a vibrant closing ceremony that celebrated the achievements of 48 participants. These students had the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in a world of learning and creativity, aimed at preventing summer learning loss. This year's program, marking the second cohort for our organization, was filled with memorable experiences, learning, and determination. We witnessed students walking kilometers every day to benefit from our free program, which included comprehensive English and French language writing and speaking techniques, individual and group reading circles, foundational computer skills, typing, coding with Scratch, GIMP technology workshops, and field trips to foster a cultural, historical, and natural understanding of their country, enhancing their cultural appreciation of their heritage—all complemented by nutritious daily lunches.
Throughout the summer, students from diverse backgrounds honed their literacy and linguistic abilities. Interactive language sessions saw them improve their grammar and vocabulary while building the confidence to effectively communicate in both written and spoken forms.
The program's technology segment introduced the fundamentals of coding, enabling students to craft digital stories and games that showcased their creativity and problem-solving skills. Digital art sessions with GIMP equipped them with competencies essential for success in our increasingly digital world.
Artistic expression was a cornerstone of the program, with students exploring various mediums to convey their ideas and emotions. Board games, too, played a significant role, fostering critical thinking and strategic planning in a collaborative and enjoyable setting.
The program's culmination was an exhibition where students showcased their projects to an audience of community leaders, parents, and local officials. This event not only highlighted the students' hard work but also served as a platform for the participants to demonstrate the knowledge and skills they had acquired over the summer and how they will apply their new skills during the academic year.
