Welcome to our Literacy Enrichment Program at Lycee Moderne d’Anyama! This summer, we embarked on a journey to enrich young minds and celebrate their culture. Our program nurtures essential language skills, explores cultural and historical themes, and encourages creative expression. We began with a focus on mastering effective communication in French and English, using resources like Azurlingua and Duolingo to enhance language proficiency. Students engaged in writing exercises, crafting personal letters and emails, and explored advanced writing techniques through blogging basics, creating personal blogs to express their thoughts and experiences.
Delving into cultural themes relevant to Ivorian society, students participated in group discussions and presentations, conducting mini-research projects that broadened their understanding of their rich heritage. We emphasized the power of reading by developing reading habits through individual and group reading circles, fostering a love for literature, critical thinking, and shared learning. Students honed research skills by exploring historical figures and conducting projects on notable Ivorian and African leaders, presenting their findings and discussing these figures' impact on society.
Debate techniques and public speaking took center stage as students prepared for structured debates on current issues in Ivory Coast, learning to reason and persuade effectively. Immersed in Ivorian and African stories, legends, and mythology, students engaged in storytelling sessions and creative writing exercises, celebrating their cultural heritage through original stories inspired by traditional legends. Exploring the intersection of language and creativity, they participated in interactive word games and art projects, expressing their learning in unique and imaginative ways.
Throughout the program, students reflected on field trips to historical sites, cultural centers, and educational hubs, documenting their experiences and insights through reflective writing. These excursions provided real-world context to their studies and deepened their appreciation for their cultural legacy.
The program culminated in final projects showcasing their skills, including creative writing, a blog portfolio, presentations, book reviews, and a storytelling collection. Our literacy program has been an incredible journey of growth, discovery, and empowerment. We are proud of our students' achievements and excited for the future they are building.
